Kauri Pinard – 178/1
$180.00
In 1895, Adolphe Pinard (1844–1934) a French obstetrician, designed an elegant, trumpet-shaped instrument for listening to babies in utero. This trumpet was made of wood and featured a single diameter opening drilled through the centre. Using this simple tool, the sound made by the fetal heart was efficiently transmitted to the listener’s ear.
This Kauri Pinard was hand turned by a local Wood Sculpture Geoff Irving and carved by his son Raj Irving who is currently teaching Whakairo at Fairfield college.
This Pinard has a non-toxic beeswax finish.
